Mission Kabad: How One Drive Is Turning Mumbai's Dry Waste into a Resource

Mumbai generates over 6,000 tonnes of waste every single day, and a large share of it is dry, recyclable material that simply never reaches a recycler. Mission Kabad is KabaadX's answer — a city-wide drive that brings organised scrap collection directly to neighbourhoods, schools, offices and housing societies.
What is Mission Kabad?
Mission Kabad is a community collection programme where our teams set up scheduled collection camps in partnership with resident welfare associations, schools and corporates. Residents bring their dry waste — paper, plastic, metal, glass and e-waste — and our team weighs it digitally, pays for valuable scrap on the spot, and channels everything to authorised recyclers.
Why it matters for Mumbai
When dry waste is mixed with wet kitchen waste, it becomes contaminated and nearly impossible to recycle. By collecting it separately at source, Mission Kabad keeps tonnes of recyclable material clean and valuable. Every drive diverts waste that would otherwise add to the Deonar and Kanjurmarg landfills.
Who can participate?
Any housing society, school, college or office in Mumbai, Thane or Navi Mumbai can host a Mission Kabad camp. Our team handles the setup, IEC material, weighing and logistics — the community just needs to show up with its dry waste.
The impact so far
Through Mission Kabad and our doorstep pickup network, Mumbai households and businesses have already recycled lakhs of kilograms of scrap with us. That means fewer trees cut for paper, less plastic in the sea, and fair income for hundreds of waste workers who are now part of the formal economy.
